Create a design to prevent bird strikes to apply on the JCCC campus Student Center.
1 billion birds die per year; Kansas City ranks in the top 10 of that list for migratory bird deaths.
How can I make it safe for birds, pleasant for people while reminding us why it’s there?
Inspired by the Kansas State Flower: the Sunflower and JCCC’s “petals”.
The moodboard featured fibonacci sequences since they are so popular in nature. I knew I wanted to bring the natural world to the campus as a reminder of why the design exists.
Elevation drawing for the south side of the Student Center. The majority of the design is up high, allowing faculty and students alike to be able to still enjoy the view along the walkway.
A photoshopped mockup of the finished design as students and faculty would see from ground level.
Elevation drawing of the North side of the Student Center by the cafe, featuring a simpler, cleaner design since it is a higher traffic area at ground level. I wanted to make sure that there were details to enjoy while maintaining a clear line of sight to the outdoors.
A photoshopped image of the student center with the vinyl applied how it would appear at ground level as people would approach the doors.
An indoor view to demonstrate that the vinyl application would not obstruct the view while giving people something interesting to look at.
A close up of the details in the white and etched glass vinyl on the North side of the Student Center.
